1980 HMI established in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in partnership with Heritage Travel to provide group meeting and incentive solutions for companies nationwide.
1987 HMI partners with Royal Caribbean® lines to create a successful consumer promotion for a $1,000 towards any seven-night cruise.
1992 HMI creates corporate partnership with Thomas Cook.
1994 HMI becomes a company of American Express®.
1996 HMI’s principals purchase ownership from American Express®.
1997 American Airlines® and HMI make history as the first airline and incentive company to partner on an awards program. HMI introduces VacationMiles® program.
2000 HMI partners with Garber Travel to form Garber Meeting & Incentive Marketing to provide incentive services to Garber’s corporate clients. Garber Travel is one of the largest corporate travel management companies in the U.S.
2002 HMI launches VacationAmericaSM, a program to encourage domestic travel as an award and build consumer confidence following the events of 9/11.
2007 HMI is one of the first companies to develop a robust preparatory awards platform that integrates with Amazon.com’s® distribution technology. This platform offered participants more than one million award choices.
2008 HMI establishes partnership with CiLoyalty, an Australian-based incentive company, and launches a global awards program in more than 80 countries.
2009 HMI rebrands Heritage Marketing & Incentives to HMI Performance Incentives. This rebranding reflects HMI’s positioning as a leader in providing performance incentive strategies, fulfillment, creative services, customer service and technology.
2010 HMI launches VacationUnlimited Experience Awards™, a program and technology that allows award earners the ability to book their own travel (real-time) via a web portal. HMI is the first company to eliminate all of typical restrictions associated with individual travel award programs with the launch of VacationUnlimited Experience Awards™.
